Education & Professional Development

The Education and Professional Development Committee is responsible for developing the Chapter’s annual education plan based on member surveys and feedback, research, our strategic plan and programs offered by MPI. We strive to produce a regular series of workshops, meetings and events that strikes a balance between education and networking opportunities and is relevant to both planners and suppliers. The Committee works very closely with the Monthly Programs Committee, which is responsible for the implementation of the education plan.

Membership

The Membership Committee has two primary objectives - the recruitment and care of new members and the retention of our existing membership. The Committee’s activities to support these goals include:

  • annual recruitment drive contest
  • new and prospective member orientations
  • annual volunteer reception
  • annual needs assessment survey.

Monthly Programs

The Monthly Programs Committee is responsible for the logistics of the Chapter’s monthly educational and networking events, including:

  • an RFP process for venues and audio/visual requirements
  • site selections
  • menu selection, audiovisual needs, room setup requirements, registration, and other venue arrangements
  • evaluations

Nominating

The Immediate Past President forms a Nominating Committee in the fall to seek out and to encourage interested and experienced chapter members to consider taking on a leadership role as a member of the Board of Directors. This Committee is charged with carrying out the nominations and elections procedures as established in the Chapter Bylaws.

Public Relations & Marketing

The Public Relations and Marketing Committee leads the effort to establish a favourable public image of MPI locally and to promote newsworthy Chapter activities at the national and international levels within MPI. Generating visibility for MPI BC assists the other committees by:

  • increasing membership and attendance at Chapter events
  • increasing media exposure of the Chapter locally and within the MPI global network
  • raising the profile of individual members, their organizations/businesses and the meetings industry in general

Publications

The Publications Committee is responsible for producing ten issues of the chapter newsletter as well as the Annual Membership Directory and the Annual Report.

Strategic Alliances

The Strategic Alliances Committee seeks to forge partnerships between MPI and its partners to financially support and enhance the programs the Chapter offers. The Committee is responsible for designing partnership policies and guidelines, soliciting partnerships with our valued planners and suppliers and following up to ensure that the defined benefits of partnering with the Chapter are met.
